U.N.I.T.Y. Video Contest

The Dover Police Department Police Chief’s Advisory Committee and Dover Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is pleased to announce the U.N.I.T.Y. (Uniting Neighbors Initiative Through Youth) video contest to engage young Dover residents in crime prevention.  The Police Chief’s Advisory Committee and P.A.L. developed the idea for the contest with the goal of engaging youth in a digital fashion due to the impact Covid-19 has had on the department’s ability to conduct youth outreach programs and promote crime prevention amongst Dover’s youth population.  The contest will be split into two age/grade groups: Middle School (5th-8th grades) and High School (9th-12th grades). 

Prizes will be awarded to finalists in each age group thanks to generous donations from Excel Business Systems, Westside Carwash, the Psi Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, and a private donation from Joreen Sykes, a member of the Police Chief’s Advisory Committee. 
A minimum of $1,500 in total prize money/scholarships will be divided amongst the winning video creators.*

1:  The video must contain one or a combination of the following messages: 

2:  Videos cannot depict violence, drugs, or illegal activity in any form, including replica/props of weapons, drugs, etc.  

3:  Videos must be 30-120 seconds long

4:  No profanity (or bleeped profanity), inappropriate language, racial slurs, or discrimination.

5:  Videos must be made with original content.

6: Participating students must reside in the Caesar Rodney or Capital School District areas and be in one of the two age/grade levels the contest specifies.  Attendance at those schools is not necessary (ie. private school, charter school, home school, County-wide school attendees are eligible).  

7: Prizes awarded to entries involving multiple participants will be divided equally amongst the winning team members. 

8. Deadline for submissions is 3:00 p.m. on April 16th, 2021.


Submissions  will be judged on a majority vote based on:
1: Strength of Message/On Topic
2: Originality
3: Visual Appeal
4: Following all Guidelines
5: Creativity

Information on how to submit your video entry will be sent via e-mail when the below registration form is received.


I have read this application and understand the disclaimer of the DOVER POLICE DEPARTMENT/VIDEO CONTEST. I give permission for my son/daughter to participate in the contest. I have explained this disclaimer to my son/daughter and agree that the DOVER POLICE DEPARTMENT will not be responsible for any accident to my child while as a result of their participation in the video contest. I give my consent for photographs, in which my son/daughter may appear, to be used in any way the DOVER POLICE DEPARTMENT may care to use them. I certify that my child is in good health and will perform normal discipline necessary for a successful group experience.  I do hereby, for services rendered, release the Dover Police Department of Delaware from any and all liability.

*Prize money/value is still being determined pending additional donations and sponsors for the contest.  If multiple participants are involved in a winning submission, the prize value will be divided equally amongst the participants.
