New Jersey Man Charged in Tuesday Vehicle Pursuit 10-21-15

Complaint # 50-15-31093

Date/Time:  Tuesday, October 20th, 2015 at 8:45Am

Location:  200 Block of East Sheldrake Circle, Dover

Officer Releasing Information:   M/Cpl. Mark Hoffman, Public Information Officer

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested a New Jersey man after a lengthy vehicle pursuit, following a domestic related investigation.  At approximately 8:45AM, the Dover Police Department responded to the 200 Block of East Sheldrake Circle in the Cannon Mills community on the west side of Dover for a “welfare check.”  The officer on scene contacted a female and determined there may have been a domestic related issue and attempted to contact Omar Davis (38).  Davis fled on foot from the officer, towards the back of the neighborhood and into a construction site next to Dover High School.  Davis then entered a 2011 Ford F-250 truck belonging to Dixie Construction and fled in the vehicle from the pursuing officer.  As he fled in the truck, Davis struck a parked construction vehicle and continued to drive away.  Davis drove onto Forrest Avenue and traveled eastbound.  Another Dover Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Davis, but Davis continued to flee.  Davis continued eastbound on Route 8/Forrest Avenue, often traveling in the opposite lane to drive around traffic or disregard traffic signals.  Davis continued to travel eastbound on Division Street, disregarding numerous traffic laws, and eventually turned southbound onto US Rt 13 and drove on Bay Road.  Davis then made a U-turn in the area of Miller Drive, through the grass median, and drove northbound on US Rt 13 to the area of College Road, where he made another U-turn in the grass median onto US Rt 13 southbound.  While traveling s/b on US Rt 13, Davis drove into oncoming traffic (s/b in the n/b lanes) in the area of Lakeview Drive, and struck the side of a vehicle.  There were no injuries reported in this collision.  Davis then turned onto White Oak Road, eventually driving into a field.  Davis exited the field and was once again approached by police attempting to stop him.  Davis continued to flee in the stolen truck, leading police through various neighborhood streets and eventually back onto US Rt 13, southbound.  Dover Police continued to chase Davis into Camden town limits.   Davis rear-ended a mini-van operated by a Dover woman on US Rt 13 in the area of the Camden Lowe’s/Diamond Motorsports.  Davis attempted to flee on foot from officers, but was apprehended by a Dover Police Department K9.  The woman operating the mini-van was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was treated and released.

Shortly after the Davis was taken into custody, it was discovered that he was wanted by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Appear on an Eluding Police charge.  Police also discovered 44.9 grams of marijuana in the residence he was staying at.  While being treated at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for wounds related to the K9 apprehension, Davis damaged a hospital room window as well.

Omar Davis was charged with the following offenses:
Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Disregard police Officer Signal
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
2nd Degree Reckless Endangering (2x)
Vehicular Assault Second Degree
Criminal Mischief (4x)
Resisting Arrest
Fugitive from Another State
37 Various Traffic Charges relating to pursuit and accidents Davis was involved in

Omar Davis was committed to JTVCC in default of $18350 secured bond.  A mugshot was not available at the time of release.  Please continue to check the website for an update containing the photo when it becomes available.
