Communication Operator (911 Dispatcher)
Job Title: Communication Operator
Salary range: $23.98 Full-Time
Hours: Full – Time
Job Description:
The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Communication Operator in the Police Department. This position is in the Police Departments’ 911 Communication Center. The primary duties of this position are to dispatch emergency services in response to calls for assistance.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for answering emergency services phones (911 phones)
- Dispatching appropriate emergency services
- Maintaining emergency reference materials
- Obtaining service in event of equipment failure
- Maintaining various logs, charts, and recordings to provide records of all emergency and non-emergency actions for follow-up investigative, administrative, or legal action
- Monitors the building security system, including security cameras
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) months of related experience with operating computers and understand basic computer functions
- Ability to obtain and maintain DELJIS certification
- ability to remain calm in crisis situations is vital, handle high stress situations and multitask
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly, and deal tactfully with the public
- Ability to work rotating shifts (currently 12-hour shifts))
- Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, and color perception as well as good physical and mental health
- Experience in DELJIS and NCIC preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook preferred
- Pro Q&A and Emergency Police Dispatching (EPD) preferred

A criminal background investigation will be required. A dispatching test will be required of all candidates. Psychological testing and a physical exam are pre-employment requirements

Police Cadet
Job Title: Police Cadet
Salary range: $18.00 Per Hour

Job Description:
Do you have the desire to provide professional and impartial service to our community? The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time Police Cadet in the Police Department. The primary duties of this position are to provide law enforcement assistance to the Police Department.
Job Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas in the Downtown Dover and Dover Public Library area to enforce City of Dover Ordinances
- Process prisoners, including completing required paperwork and operation mug shot image computer
- Issue summons to ordinances violators & completes arrest reports as needed
- Assist other police personnel as directed
- Assist with administrative and operational goals of the department
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Excellent communication skills
- Valid Driver’s License
- In-depth background investigation
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Physical fitness test

Animal Control Officer
Job Title: Animal Control Officer
Salary range: $19.37 – $20.33 per hour (Based on Qualifications)
Hours: Full-Time
Job Description:
Do you have what it takes to be part of our team? The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Animal Control Officer in the Dover Police Department. The essential function of this position within the organization is to control animals in the City of Dover. Capture stray animals, issue summons, lock jocks, and patrol. This position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Job Responsibilities
- Respond to citizen complaints regarding nuisance animals
- Capture dangerous, stray, and injured animals; delivers to appropriate facility
- Patrol for stray animals and citizens violating animal ordinances; issues warnings/citations for animal ordinance violations
- Investigates reports of animal bites and acts of cruelty to animals; obtains information from involved parties and quarantines animals engaging in biting behavior
- Unlocks vehicles for citizens who lock their keys in their vehicles
- Picks up and distributes mail for the Department
Required Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Six (6) months of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year certificate from college or vocational school
