Part-Time Police Cadets (19 hours per week) 

The City of Dover is currently recruiting for one (1) part-time Police Cadet.  The essential function of this position will be to provide law enforcement assistance to the Police Department.

The primary duties will include Patrol of assigned areas in the Downtown Dover area on foot to enforce City of Dover Ordinances and to assist other police personnel as directed; assist in the administrative and operational goals of the department.

This position requires excellent communications skills as well as a valid driver’s license along with a high school diploma, attendance in college is preferred.  An in-depth background investigation and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening will be conducted. A physical fitness test is required. Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Arrest 1-22-16

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department Street Crimes Unit, aided by Delaware Probation and Parole, arrested an adult and two juveniles for drug and firearm possession.  The stop was conducted at 8:07PM in the area of Greenhill Avenue and White Oak Road.  During the stop officers located a loaded 9mm handgun, a .22 caliber revolver, and .22 caliber ammunition concealed inside the vehicle.  Officers also located 17 Oxycodone pills in the vehicle.  As a result the following persons were charged:

Residential Burglary on Ann Avenue 1-22-16

Date/Time:  Thursday, January 21, 2016 between 10:45AM and 4:30PM

Location:  Unit Block of Ann Avenue, Dover, DE

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that occurred on Thursday between 10:45AM and 4:30PM.  During that time, a suspect(s) entered the home through a window after removing the screen.  Once inside the home, the suspect stole a 48″ LG television and  a handgun from the residence.

Vehicle Stop Leads to Marijuana and Gun Arrest 1-22-15

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested a Smyrna man for carrying a concealed firearm during a traffic stop on Thursday evening.  Anthony Turpin, 25, was stopped for a violation in the area of North DuPont Highway and Rustic Lane.  During the stop, Dover Police K9 Britt, alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.  A search was conducted and 3 grams of marijuana were found inside the vehicle, as well as a 9mm Glock handgun.  Turpin was taken into custody without incident and issued a civil violation for marijuana possession and charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.  He was released on $2,500 unsecured bond after being arraigned at JP Court 7.
