Dial 911 for Emergency

Dover Police Participating In Motorcycle Safety Initiative 6-3-16

The Dover Police Department is partnering with the Office of Highway Safety to increase enforcement to promote motorcycle safety.  The campaign which begins on June 10th and wraps up on June 25th, will have put extra officers on patrol to enforce driving and equipment violations pertaining to motorcycles.  The goal of the program is to create awareness and improve compliance with safety laws and speeding/aggressive driving by motorcycle operators on Dover’s roadways in order to prevent motorcycle accidents and fatalities.  In 2015, there were 20 fatalities as a result of accidents involving motorcycles.  There were 15 in 2014 and 20 in 2013 as well.*  It is the goal of the Dover Police Department to reduce that number through enforcement and education efforts.
