Dover Police Warn of Electric Bill Scam

The City of Dover electric/utility department has received calls from several customers stating that they have received calls from persons claiming to be with “Delmarva Power” or “City of Dover” with a work order to cut their electricity off and offer a 1-800 number to call.  Please be advised that this is a scam.  The City Of Dover does not place calls to collect payments.  Please do not send money by phone, pre-paid cards, or through money services such as Western Union, etc.  If you have reason to believe that your electricity is at risk of being shut off, contact the City of Dover or your respective utility company yourself to get information.  Never send money.
