Dover Police Accepting Applications for 2017 Citizen’s Police Academy 8-10-17

The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a program that meets once a week on Tuesday evenings from 6:00p.m-9:00pm from September 12th-November 7th, 2017 (except October 31st).  This program is designed to provide members of the Dover community with additional knowledge about their police department. It allows citizens of Dover to become more educated on Dover Police Department procedure and the pressures associated within law enforcement. We seek and invite a diverse group of people that either live in or work in the City of Dover to apply. There is no cost to attend the Citizen Police Academy.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 1st

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to accomplish three goals:

  1. To educate community members in Dover Police Department procedures and the pressures associated within law enforcement
  2. To allow the citizens of Dover to meet the men and women who serve them
  3. To provide Dover Police Department officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.

Citizen Police Academy members are given a realistic view of the Department.

  • Criminal Investigations
  • Crime Scene Processing and Forensics
  • Patrol Operations

  • Traffic Stops

The academy meets once a week at the Dover Police Department.

Presentations consist of lectures, demonstrations, videos, computer presentations, and “hands on” participation. Each participant is given the opportunity to ride with an officer for one shift.

Two Suspects Burglarize Two Businesses Overnight 8-10-17

283 N. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE (Sally’s Beauty Supply)

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating two burglaries that occurred early Thursday morning.  At approximately 12:31AM, officers responded to Sally’s Beauty Supply, located at 283 N. DuPont Highway for an alarm.  Upon arrival, officers observed that the front door glass was broken.  The suspects used a rock to break the window and then stole a cash drawer from the register.

At 12:55AM, officers responded to the DOT Discount store located at 321 Independence Blvd. for another alarm.   It was determined that the same suspects from the Sally’s Beauty Supply burglary used a rock to break the glass door to the DOT Discount store as well.  Once inside, the suspects took a cash drawer and two cartons of Newport cigarettes.  The suspects in both cases are described as males, wearing dark clothing with  hoods pulled over their faces, and wearing gloves.
