Bicycle Violation Leads to Gun Arrest 8-15-17

Narrative:

Thomas Clark (29), of Dover, was arrested on firearms charges following a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.  Clark was stopped for a traffic (bicycle) violation in the area of Maple Parkway and N. DuPont Highway at 1:52AM, and fled from officers.  Officers pursued Clark on foot and took him into custody following a brief struggle.  Clark was found to be in possession of a .38 revolver in his pocket.  As a result of the incident, Clark was charged with the following offenses:
-Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Possession of a Firearm During Commission of Felony
-Carrying Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Resisting Arrest (with force)
-Multiple traffic related violations

Bond information was not available at the time of release.

Dover Police Accepting Applications for 2017 Citizen’s Police Academy 8-10-17

The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a program that meets once a week on Tuesday evenings from 6:00p.m-9:00pm from September 12th-November 7th, 2017 (except October 31st).  This program is designed to provide members of the Dover community with additional knowledge about their police department. It allows citizens of Dover to become more educated on Dover Police Department procedure and the pressures associated within law enforcement. We seek and invite a diverse group of people that either live in or work in the City of Dover to apply. There is no cost to attend the Citizen Police Academy.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 1st

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to accomplish three goals:

  1. To educate community members in Dover Police Department procedures and the pressures associated within law enforcement
  2. To allow the citizens of Dover to meet the men and women who serve them
  3. To provide Dover Police Department officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.

Citizen Police Academy members are given a realistic view of the Department.

The academy meets once a week at the Dover Police Department.

Presentations consist of lectures, demonstrations, videos, computer presentations, and “hands on” participation. Each participant is given the opportunity to ride with an officer for one shift.

Two Suspects Burglarize Two Businesses Overnight 8-10-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating two burglaries that occurred early Thursday morning.  At approximately 12:31AM, officers responded to Sally’s Beauty Supply, located at 283 N. DuPont Highway for an alarm.  Upon arrival, officers observed that the front door glass was broken.  The suspects used a rock to break the window and then stole a cash drawer from the register.

At 12:55AM, officers responded to the DOT Discount store located at 321 Independence Blvd. for another alarm.   It was determined that the same suspects from the Sally’s Beauty Supply burglary used a rock to break the glass door to the DOT Discount store as well.  Once inside, the suspects took a cash drawer and two cartons of Newport cigarettes.  The suspects in both cases are described as males, wearing dark clothing with  hoods pulled over their faces, and wearing gloves.

Probation Check Leads to Drug and Gun Charges 8-8-17

Narrative:

Officers from the Dover Police Department Street Crimes Unit and Delaware Probation and Parole arrested four people at the Capital Inn on Thursday night.  At approximately 10:45PM, the team of officers were conducting probation related curfew checks, when they entered a room occupied by the four subjects and smelled marijuana and observed a smoke-filled room.  Officers checked the room and discovered that Daekwon Hoskins (22) was in possession of a .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine, 260.4 grams of marijuana, and a digital scale.  Jameer Roberson was found with an additional 24.6 grams of marijuana, digital scale, and packaging materials.  John Smith (34) and Elijah Stewart (24), were both arrested on outstanding court capias and released on unsecured bond pending a new court date.

Man Arrested After Robbing Elderly Woman at ATM 8-7-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested a 28-year-old man after he robbed a 71-year-old woman on Sunday afternoon.  At approximately 1:05PM, the female victim withdrew an undisclosed amount of cash from the drive-up ATM at the Dover Federal Credit Union.  When she received the money, Joshua Lewis, entered her vehicle through the passenger side door and displayed a large knife, demanding the money.  Lewis told the vicitm to drive him to another location, but fled on foot when he observed several other vehicles in the area.  Witnesses advised officers that Lewis fled to a room in the Super Lodge across the highway at 246 N. DuPont Highway.  Officers contacted Lewis and he was taken into custody.  Joshua Lewis was committed on $77,750 secured bond to JTVCC on the following charges:
-Carjacking 1st Degree
-Robbery 1st Degree
-Possession of Deadly Weapon During Commission of Felony
-Possession of Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited

Drug/Firearms Arrest on Kirkwood Street 8-7-2017

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department, with assistance from the Delaware State Police and Delaware Probation and Parole, executed a search warrant in the 100 Block of Kirkwood Street on Thursday, August 3rd.  The search warrant was the result of a drug investigation at the residence.  As a result of the search warrant, officers located 2.649 grams of heroin, .3 grams crack cocaine, .7 grams of marijuana, and a .22 caliber handgun.  The following persons were charged in the incident:

Two Arrested Following Search Warrant on Alonzo Drive 8-4-17

 Location:  100 Block of Alonzo Drive, Dover, DE

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department, with assistance from the Delaware State Police, and Delaware Probation and Parole conducted a search warrant in the 100 Block of Alonzo Drive on Wednesday, August 2nd at 6:05AM.  The search warrant was the result of a drug and firearms investigation.  As a result of the search warrant, officers discovered three handguns (9mm), various ammunition, and 20.3 grams of marijuana.  During the search warrant, Khalil Seward attempted to avoid arrest by using a large aggressive dog against officers.  Officers were forced to euthanize the dog as a result.
