Carjacking of Taxi Driver 4-2-2018

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a carjacking of a taxi driver that occurred early Sunday morning.  At approximately 4:25AM, a 50-year-old male taxi driver, picked up two suspects in the area of River Road, just south of Kent County Family Court. The taxi proceeded onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and then onto DuPont Highway.  The driver pulled into the parking lot of Royal Farms and one of the suspects ordered the driver out of the vehicle while possibly armed.  The other suspect got into the driver’s seat and both suspects fled in the vehicle, westbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.  

The suspects were both described as being black males, approximately 6’2″ with one being heavy-set and the other having an average build.

Shooting on S. Governors Avenue 4-2-2018

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a 32-year-old Dover man on Sunday afternoon.  At approximately 4:57PM, the victim was shot in the abdomen by an unknown suspect while in the area of 26 S. Governors Avenue.  The victim was transported by private vehicle to Bayhealth Kent General where he underwent surgery for his injuries, and was later transported to Christiana Hospital for additional treatment and is in stable condition.  In addition to the victim, a nearby vehicle was struck, as was the north side of the Dover Fire Department located at S. Governors and Reed Streets.  No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses initially reported that the suspected gunman ran into an apartment inside 26 S. Governors Avenue.  These reports prompted the response of the Dover Police Department’s Special Operations Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Kent County Department of Public Safety, and various units from the Delaware State Police for approximately four hours from 5:30PM-9:30PM.  During that time the residents inside 26 S. Governors Avenue, as well as neighboring residents were removed from their homes.  Officers checked three apartments that makeup the structure and did not locate any suspects.  The scene was cleared of all emergency personnel and the street re-opened at approximately 10:00PM.
