East Water Street Home Struck by Gunfire 7-15-20

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a late reported shooting incident that damaged the rear of a home in the 400 Block of East Water Street on Tuesday morning.  Officers responded to the residence at 1:06PM when the resident called police and advised her home struck by gunfire.  The victim stated that she heard what she believed to be fireworks between 3:00AM-4:00AM on Tuesday morning but did not see anyone outside of the home.  Several hours later, she observed the damage and notified police.

Suspect Arrested After Stabbing Man on Saturday Morning 7-11-2020

Narrative: 

51-year-old John Jackson, of Dover, was charged after stabbing a 43-year-old man on Saturday morning during an altercation.  The male victim was on his way to his place of employment when Jackson pulled along side of him in a vehicle and challenging him to a fight.  The victim continued to work and as he was walking into the back door of the business, Jackson rushed him and started a fight.  During the altercation, Jackson pulled a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in his upper and lower extremities.  The victim was transported to Kent General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  Jackson was taken into custody by police at the Capital Inn without incident.  The victim and Jackson are known to one another.  

Jackson was released after posting a $20,000 secured bond on the following charges:
-Assault 1st Degree
-Possession of Deadly Weapon During Commission of Felony

Jackson’s mugshot was not available at the time of release.

Arrest Made After Shots Fired on Fulton Street

Location:  Fulton Street at North New Street, Dover, DE

Narrative: 

A 21-year-old Dover man has been charged in a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, July 7th.  At approximately 9:00PM, officers responded to the area of North New Street and Fulton Street for a report of shots fired.  Numerous shell casings were located in the area, but no injuries or property damage was reported.  During the investigation, it was discovered that two subjects had fired at one another in the area.  Anthony Clark was developed as a suspect and was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon without incident.  Detectives are working to identify the second male suspect involved in this case.

Clark was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 secured bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Firearm/Ammo by Person Prohibited (2x)
-Carrying Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Illegal Gang Participation
-Violation of Probation

Suspect Arrested for Burglary at Islamic Society of Central Delaware 7-8-2020

Narrative: 

A Dover man is has pending charges as the result of a burglary at the Islamic Society of Central Delaware center at 777 S. Little Creek Road.  At approximately 5:33AM, Rafael Martinez (40) gained entry into the building by breaking a glass door with a large rock.  Employees who arrived at the center located and confronted Martinez inside of the building.  Martinez became aggressive towards the employees and started a physical altercation with them.  The employees were able to restrain Martinez and notified police.  Officers arrived and took Martinez into custody without incident.  Martinez was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation and will be charged with the following offenses upon his release:

-Burglary 3rd Degree
-Criminal Mischief 
-Theft
-Offensive Touching
-Terroristic Threatening

Dover Police Investigating Homicide at S. DuPont Highway and Loockerman Street 7-8-2020

Location:  S. DuPont Highway at Loockerman Street, Dover, DE

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating the shooting death of 27-year-old Uniqua Caldwell, of Dover.  Officers responded to the area of S. DuPont Highway and Loockerman Street for a report of a vehicle crash after a black Dodge Challenger struck a sign on the northwest corner of the intersection.  When officer’s arrived, they located Caldwell in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to the head.  Caldwell was transported to Kent General Hospital by ambulance where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries.  Witnesses in the area observed a black male and black female exit the vehicle and flee on foot in an eastbound direction.

Suspect Arrested After Robbery at DOT Discount Tobacco Store 7-6-2020

Location:  DOT Discount, 321 Independence Blvd., Dover, DE

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department arrested 41-year-old William Smiley after a robbery at the DOT Discount Store on Independence Boulevard on Friday afternoon.  Officers responded to the area at 4:52PM for a report of an armed robbery.  It was learned that Smiley entered the business and asked the clerk for two packs of “Marlboro Menthol 100” cigarettes.  When the clerk began to scan the items, Smiley pulled a black  gun out, placed it on the counter, and demanded cash.  The clerk complied and Smiley fled with the cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.  After talking with the clerk and reviewing video, officers were able to obtain a detailed description of the suspect.  A short time later, officers located Smiley in the area of Fieldstone Court.  Smiley was in possession or wearing the clothing that was observed on video.  Smiley was also in possession of the “Marlboro Menthol 100” cigarettes, a black BB Gun (Beretta replica), and an undisclosed amount of cash that was taken from the register of DOT Discount.

Smiley was committed to SCI on a $11,000 secured bond on the following charges:
-Robbery 1st Degree
-Wearing a Disguise During Commission of Felony

Two Homes Damaged by Gunfire on East Water Street 7-6-2020

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Monday morning in the 400 Block of East Water Street.  At approximately 12:30AM, officers responded to the area for a report of shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers located two homes on East Water Street that had been struck by gunfire.  Both homes were occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported.
