Update: Arrest Made in July 2020 Homicide


UPDATE: The Dover Police Department has made an arrest in the July 8th, 2020 shooting death of Uniqua Caldwell.  Heivyn Johnson (17) was developed as a suspect during the investigation into the incident and was arrested on April 15th, 2021 on separate firearms charges.  Once Johnson was taken into custody, detectives also charged her with the following offenses stemming from the July 8th, 2020 incident:
-Manslaughter
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony
-Possession of Firearm/Ammo by Person Prohibited (3x)
-Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

Johnson was committed to the Stevenson Juvenile Detention Center on a $60,000 cash bond on the above charges.

Original Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating the shooting death of 27-year-old Uniqua Caldwell, of Dover.  Officers responded to the area of S. DuPont Highway and Loockerman Street for a report of a vehicle crash after a black Dodge Challenger struck a sign on the northwest corner of the intersection.  When officer’s arrived, they located Caldwell in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to the head.  Caldwell was transported to Kent General Hospital by ambulance where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries.  Witnesses in the area observed a black male and black female exit the vehicle and flee on foot in an eastbound direction.  

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7130. Firearms Investigation Results in Six Arrests 4-15-2021

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested six subjects on firearms related charges on Thursday evening as the result of an investigation.  Dover Police and the U.S. Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force learned that Heivyn (pronounced Heaven) Johnson (17), who was wanted on firearms charges by the Dover Police Department, was located at a residence in the 300 Block of Harmony Lane.

Officers established surveillance in the area and observed Johnson exit the residence and get inside of a black Chevrolet Suburban parked nearby.  Officers then observed Serenity Jackson (19) exit the same residence with a handgun and contact Johnson, Kevin Baynard (21), Jaquelle McDonald (24), and Amir Brundge (21) inside of the Suburban.  Jackson was later contacted on a traffic stop and taken into custody in reference to the firearms investigation.

During that traffic stop, officers observed Destiny Johnson (19) exit the black Suburban on Harmony Lane with a brown paper bag and run back inside the residence in the 300 Block of Harmony Lane.  Officers then approached the black Suburban and contacted the remaining subjects inside, taking Heivyn Johnson, Jaquelle McDonald, Kevin Baynard,  Amir Brundge, and Destiny Johnson into custody without incident.  

Officers then obtained a search warrant for the residence and located the following items:
-a total of 471 grams of marijuana
-Smith and Wesson SD9 9mm handgun
-SCCY CPX-9 9mm handgun
-Beretta 92FS 9mm handgun
-Glock 19x 9mm handgun
-Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun

All of the located firearms were loaded.  

Johnson was also a suspect in a July 8th, 2020 shooting that resulted in the death of Uniqua Caldwell.  As a result of this investigation, Johnson was also charged with offenses related to that case.

Heivyn Johnson (17) of Dover was committed to the Stevenson Detention Center on a $60,000 cash bond on the following offenses:

Serenity Jackson was released on an O.R. Bond for Hindering Prosecution.

Destiny Johnson was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute on a $132,100 secured bond on the following charges:
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited (3x)
-Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon (3x)
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony
-Possession of Marijuana

Jaquelle McDonald was committed to SCI on a $10,300 cash bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Conspiracy 3rd Degree
-Possession of Marijuana

Kevin Baynard was committed to SCI on a $44,000 secured bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Possession of Marijuana
-Conspiracy 3rd Degree

Amir Brundge was committed to SCI on a $47,850 secured bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited (2x)
-Possession of Marijuana
-Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana
-Drug Paraphernalia
-Conspiracy 3rd Degree
