UPDATE to Fire Investigation at Loockerman Street and South New Street:
March 16th, 2022 at 2:35 p.m. The Dover Police Department is providing an update regarding the March 16th fire at Loockerman Street and South New Street. As a result of the fire, Gowens Williams (57) was found deceased inside of the building. Seven others were transported or self-transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment of minor injuries ad/or smoke inhalation. All of those subjects have been discharged with the exception of one female who returned for further treatment of symptoms relating to smoke inhalation that are not life threatening.
Fire crews and investigators remain on scene and the surrounding roadways are expected to remain closed for the next several hours and possibly longer. Motorists should use alternative routes to travel and make plans to do so in the coming days as cleanup at the scene continues and investigators work to determine the safety of the area and what remains of the structure.
The cause and origin of the fire have not been determined and remain under investigation at this time. Additional details will be released as they become available.
