UPDATE: Arrest Made in New Street Shooting

UPDATE: On Friday, June 17th, 2022, the Dover Police Department arrested 20-year-old Zaveon Murchison in connection with the June 9th shooting on South New Street. Murchison was developed as a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained. On June 17th, a search warrant was obtained for a home in the Unit Block of South Queen Street after it was determined that Murchison was inside of the home. Murchison was taken into custody without incident and committed to SCI on a $565,000 cash bond on the following charges:
-Attempted Murder 1st Degree
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony

A mugshot was not available at the time of release.

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 20-year-old male in critical condition as the result of multiple gunshot wounds. Officers responded to the 100 Block of South New Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located the male victim lying in the roadway and began first aid until medics arrived and transported the victim to Bayhealth Kent Campus. The victim was struck a total of eight times by gunfire with injuries to his upper extremities and torso. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition

Suspect Arrested in Carjacking

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested one suspect and is seeking a second in connection with a carjacking that occurred on Thursday morning. At approximately 12:34 a.m., the two suspects entered a vehicle that was left running in the parking lot. The female victim observed this and ran outside to approach them. At that time the driver pointed a handgun at her and the vehicle fled. A short time later, the vehicle was observed by Smyrna Police Department, but the pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns. At 3:37 a.m. the vehicle was once again spotted by Smyrna Police who pursued the vehicle into Dover. The vehicle stopped in the area of South Governors Avenue and Bank Lane and both suspects fled on foot. Officers were able to arrest Dakota Borntreger (20), who was also in possession of two handguns. The second suspect is still at large and is described as a black male wearing dark clothing.

Borntreger was committed to SCI on a $46,000 cash bond on the following offenses:
-Robbery 1st Degree
-Possession of Untraceable Firearm (2x)
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Wearing a Disguise
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
