UPDATE (Subject Located): Gold Alert Issued for 71-Year-Old Dover Man

UPDATE (July 12th, 2022): The Dover Police Department has cancelled the Gold Alert for Mark O’Brien. O’Brien was located safely and returned to his residence.

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is issuing a Gold Alert for a missing 71-year-old Dover man. Mark O’Brien was last seen leaving his residence at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022. O’Brien is a white male, 6’2″ in height, approximately 265 pounds, and was last seen wearing all black clothing. O’Brien suffers from multiple conditions that may pose a risk to his health and safety if not properly monitored or treated.

Dover Police Announce Date and Location for 2022 National Night Out

The Dover Police Department will once again bring the National Night Out to the Dover community on Tuesday, August 16th from 6-8pm.  The event brings the Dover Police Department, along with several emergency agencies and military personnel to one place where the public can bring their families to meet and greet local heroes and see the equipment used in their jobs while forming a positive relationship with the community.  In addition to appearances and demonstrations by these agencies, Night Out will feature fun activities for all ages along with food and beverages for all while supplies last.  The venue for the event has been moved to the Dover High School at 1 Dover High Drive, Dover, DE. 

The National Night Out  provides a variety of agencies with an opportunity to show our citizens what services they provide, the vehicles and equipment they use, and a chance to interact with personnel in a relaxed atmosphere.  

The Dover Police Department requests that political candidates/officials do NOT campaign, distribute handbills, or other materials at this event.

Three Juvenile Suspects Arrested Following Theft of Hyundai Sonata

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department has arrested three juveniles after a brief pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Wednesday morning. At approximately 5:41 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 100 Block of Thames Drive for a report of a stolen 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The investigating officer announced details of the stolen vehicle over the police radio while at the scene. An officer on patrol in the area of Route 8 and Dover High Drive observed the stolen vehicle traveling westbound. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspects fled, resulting in a brief vehicle pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a parked car in the Cannon Mills neighborhood. Three suspects (one white male and two black males) fled the vehicle on foot and were all apprehended without incident. All three suspects are juveniles.

The Dover Police Department issued an alert on July 3rd, 2022 to Hyundai Sonata and Elantra owners following a string of thefts in the area. At this time, it is unknown if the arrested suspects were involved in previous incidents. Those cases remain under investigation with additional charges pending if the suspects are linked to those prior incidents.

The suspects were charged as follows:

A 15-year-old white male from Dover was charged with:
-Receiving Stolen Property
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Resisting Arrest
-Reckless Driving
-Disregard Police Officer Signal
-Additional traffic violations

A 15-year-old black male from Dover was charged with:
-Receiving Stolen Property
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Resisting Arrest

A 15-year-old black male from Dover was charged with:
-Receiving Stolen Property
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Resisting Arrest

Bond information was unavailable at the time of release.
