Dover Man Arrested Following Vehicle Pursuit

Narrative: The Dover Police Department arrested an 18-year-old male early Monday morning following a brief vehicle pursuit. At approximately 12:17 a.m., officers responded to the area of Lexington Place and Nicholas Drive in reference to several subjects being loud. Officers attempted to contact the group at which time the subjects began entering vehicles and attempted to leave. When officers attempted to contact Jemeire Perry, he fled in his vehicle, nearly striking one of the officers on scene. Perry was taken into custody without incident at the conclusion of a brief vehicle pursuit. After speaking with Perry it was determined that he was under the influence and a blood search warrant was obtained and executed at Bayhealth Kent Campus.

Perry was released on an O.R. Bond on the following charges:
-Reckless Endangering 2nd Degree
-Reckless Driving
-Driving Under the Influence
-Disregarding a Police Signal
-Multiple Traffic Offenses

In addition to Perry’s charges a female passenger was given a civil citation for possession of a small amount of marijuana. Two other occupants were released with no charges.

Applications Being Accepted for 2022 Citizen’s Police Academy

The Dover Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2022 Citizen’s Police Academy.  The Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) is a program that meets once a week on Tuesday evenings from 6:00p.m-9:00pm.  The academy will begin on September 6th and ends on November 1st, 2022.  This program is designed to provide members of the Dover community with additional knowledge about their police department. It allows citizens of Dover to become more educated on Dover Police Department procedure and the pressures associated within law enforcement. We seek and invite a diverse group of people who either live in or work in the City of Dover to apply.  You do not have to be a Dover citizen to attend.  There is no cost to attend the Citizen Police Academy.

The application deadline for 2022 is August 26th by 3:00 p.m.!

There are LIMITED spots available for the 2022 class.

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to accomplish three goals:

  1. To educate community members in Dover Police Department procedures and the pressures associated within law enforcement
  2. To allow the citizens of Dover to meet the men and women who serve them
  3. To provide Dover Police Department officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.

Citizen Police Academy members are given a realistic view of the Department.

The academy meets once a week at the Dover Police Department on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-9pm.

Presentations consist of lectures, demonstrations, videos, computer presentations, and “hands on” participation. Each participant is given the opportunity to ride with an officer for one shift.
