ANIMAL CONTROL

 

The police department employs one full time (civilian) Animal Control Officer , who is responsible for animal complaints within the city. The Animal Control Officer handles law enforcement complaints concerning animals such as cruelty and neglect.  The Animal Control Officer investigates all exposure to rabies reports where a human has been bit by an animal, and reports same to the Department of Public Health.  The Animal Control Officer investigates properties for unsanitary, neglected or vicious dogs, along with these duties he will assist with lock jock (vehicle lockouts) and parking complaints.  Stray dogs and cats are handled by the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare agency.
