UPDATE: Police Investigating Shooting Death at Dover Motel 6-1-2017

UPDATE:   Darren Weiford (21), has been charged with the murder of Amber Buckler, a 20-year-old woman from the Dover area.  Officers responded to the First State Inn after being called to the motel at 11:28AM on Thursday, June 1st.  Buckler was found deceased in a motel room from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.  Weiford was arrested at the scene without incident and was committed to JTVCC in default of $1,180,000.00 Cash Bond for 1st Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony.

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a woman on Thursday morning.  The incident occurred at the First State Inn Motel located at 1760 N. DuPont Highway in Dover when police were called to the motel at 11:28AM.  Detectives have a suspect in custody and believe this to be an isolated incident that is possibly domestic related.  The names of the victim and suspect are being withheld pending the notification of the victim’s family.  An updated press release will be published online once the appropriate parties have been notified.

Suspect Flees from Traffic Stop, Charged with 3rd Offense DUI 6-2-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested Dennis Stevens Jr. (38) for DUI (third offense) and other charges following a traffic stop on Friday morning.  At approximately 12:59AM, officers on patrol in the area of South New Street and Reed Street observed a green Jeep Cherokee commit a moving violation and attempted to stop the vehicle.  Stevens ignored police and drove the vehicle to South Queen Street where he fled on foot.  Following a track by Dover K9 Riko, Stevens was located in the 100 Block of S. New Street where he was taken into custody without incident.  Stevens was committed to JTVCC in default of $6900.00 cash bond on the following charges:
-3rd Offense DUI
-Disregard Police Officer Signal
-Resisting Arrest
-Various traffic violations

Suspect Arrested in Residential Burglary 6-2-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested Kenneth Watson (55) for a residential burgalry that occurred on Thursday night.  At approximately 10:02PM, Watson forced entry into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment by breaking a window after she refused to allow him inside.  Upon police arrival, Watson fled the area on foot but was taken into custody a short time later.  Watson was also wanted by Dover Police for separate shoplifting and theft charges.  Watson was committed to JTVCC in default of $11,800 on the following charges:
-Burglary 2nd Degree
-Menacing
-Resisting Arrest
-Criminal Mischief (2x)
-Theft Under $1500.00*
-Offensive Touching*
-Shoplifting*
*Charges were from prior incident Watson was wanted for.

Suspect Arrested Following Robbery of Delivery Driver 6-2-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested Tyree Smith (23) on robbery charges after he robbed a delivery person.  On Thursday, at approximately 8:50PM, a 33-year-old female food delivery driver, was sitting in her vehicle after completing a delivery to the Capital Inn at 1426 N. DuPont Highway when Smith approached her vehicle.  Smith opened the driver’s door and threatened her if she did give him money.  The victim complied and the suspect fled the area in a nearby vehicle.  The victim followed the suspect and was able to get a tag number while notifying police.  Dover police officers located the suspect vehicle on Water Street a short time later and took the suspect into custody without incident.  Smith was also wanted by Harrington Police for robbery charges, Delaware State Police Troop 3 for burglary charges, and Troop 9 for theft.  Smith was committed to JTVCC in default of $28,500 secured bond and was charged with one count of Robbery 2nd Degree by the Dover Police Department.
