Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department with the assistance of Delaware Probation and Parole, arrested Joseph Barcita (45) on drugs and firearms charges on Tuesday afternoon.  At approximately 2:00PM, officers executed a search warrant at Barcita’s home in the 100 Block of Spruance Road as the result of a drug dealing investigation. Barcita was taken into custody without incident.  The search that followed resulted in the discovery of the following items:
-76.3 grams of Cocaine
-31.4 grams of Crack Cocaine
-278.1 grams of Marijuana
-Loaded .45 caliber handgun
-Loaded 9mm handgun
-Drug Paraphernalia
-$814 in Drug Proceeds

Robbery at Forrest Avenue Valero Gas Station 10-30-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating an armed robbery of a gas station that occurred on Tuesday night.  At approximately 9:43PM, two suspects entered the Valero gas station located at 1358 Forrest Avenue.  Once inside, the suspects displayed a black handgun and demanded money and tobacco products.  The victim complied and then fled on foot toward the WAWA on Route 8 for help.  The suspects fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise in an unknown direction. 

The suspects were described as being two black males, wearing dark clothing, and face masks.

Two Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges While Trying to Sell Stolen Property 10-28-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department took a theft complaint on October 18th, 2019, where a victim had a package containing a $995.00 jacket stolen from the front door of their apartment.  On October 27th, 2019, officers received information that a local subject had the item for sale on Ebay and that subject agreed to meet at the Royal Farms parking lot, located at 295 S. DuPont Highway in Dover.  

The suspect(s) communicated that they would be in a navy blue Audi with Virginia tags.  Officers observed Dominique Miles (22) and Kelvin Boadu (22) inside of the vehicle and approached the suspects.  Shortly after exiting the vehicle, Boadu attempted to flee from officers on foot but was quickly apprehended.  Boadu was found to have a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his waistband with an obliterated serial number.  

Inside of the vehicle, officers located 18.1 grams of marijuana (packaged for sale), a digital scale, and the stolen jacket in the trunk of the vehicle.  

Dominique Miles was released on an unsecured bond on the following charges:
-Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana
-Receiving Stolen Property
-Drug Paraphernalia
-Conspiracy 3rd Degree

-Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Possession of Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number

Second Fatality in October 22nd Crash at Webbs Lane and S. DuPont Highway 10-25-2019

Update:  On October 25th, 2019, Shawn Shannon (25) succumbed to his injuries as a result of the motor vehicle collision.

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Tuesday, October 22nd.  At approximately 9:55PM, officers responded to the area of S. DuPont Highway and Webbs Lane and discovered what appeared to be a three vehicle collision with injuries.  The road conditions were wet at the time.  Further investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Sienna, operated by Deborah Young (67) was traveling south on S. DuPont Highway approaching Webbs Lane.  A 2019 Kia Soul being operated by Wayne Briney (27) attempted to turn left from the northbound turn lane of S. DuPont Highway onto Webbs Lane.  The front of the Toyota Sienna struck the passenger side of the Kia Soul, resulting in both vehicles spinning.  The Sienna came to rest facing northbound in the right lane of the southbound lanes.  The Kia Soul came to rest along the west edge of  the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway.  

Shortly after the initial accident, Shawn Shannon (25), entered the roadway on foot in an effort to aid those involved in the accident.  During this time, a 2007 Jeep Cherokee operated by Michael Baize (56), struck the Toyota Sienna that was still occupied by Deborah Young.  The impact caused the Toyota Sienna to cross the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway, the grass median, and the northbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway and come to rest along the east edge of the roadway.  As a result of this collision, Shawn Shannon was also struck by one of the vehicles.

Deborah Young was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries from the incident.  

Shawn Shannon is currently in critical condition at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

Both Wayne Briney and Michael Baize were treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.  

The investigation is ongoing and no determination on any potential charges has been made at this time.

Dover Police Investigating Fatal Accident at S. DuPont Highway and Webbs Lane

Attempted Armed Robbery at Valero Gas Station 10-21-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating the second armed robbery (attempted) of a Valero gas station in five days.  At approximately 7:56PM, a white male suspect entered the business and stated he had a gun and demanded money from the register.  The clerk refused and the suspect fled on foot toward Chatham Cover.  The suspect was described as being a white male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white pants, and a black hat.  Detectives are investigating the possibility of this incident being related to the October 15th robbery at the same business.

20-Year-Old Male Shot in the Foot on S. New Street 10-21-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday morning.  At approximately 12:17AM, officers in the downtown area heard multiple gunshots in the Unit Block of S. New Street.  a 20-year-old male was located with a gunshot wound to his foot and was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital by ambulance.  The victim and potential witnesses that were located in the area have been uncooperative with investigative efforts at this time.
