Dover Police Athletic League Announces Three Events

As Covid-19 restrictions are eased in Delaware, the Dover Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is excited to announce new events for 2021.  Registration for all three events are open with information available at DoverPolice.org/PAL. As regulations continue to be eased, P.A.L. and the Dover Police Department’s Community Policing Unit hope to add additional community outreach events throughout the Dover community.

Dover Youth Police Academy

The Dover Police Department and the Dover Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) are excited to announce their annual youth police academy. The youth academy will be held at the Dover Police Department and consist of two separate classes. 

This is a five-day program that will start from Monday, June 21st, 2021 to Friday, June 25th, 2021 The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3 pm. Upon completion of the first week, there will be an additional youth academy the following week which will be scheduled from Monday, June 28th, 2021 to Friday, July 2nd. The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3pm.

Capital School district food service will provide lunches each day for the youth recruits and snacks, drinks, and water will be provided courtesy of our sponsor NCALL and Restoring Central Dover. 

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The youth academy is open to both boys and girls ages 10-12. A minimum of 5 participants must register by the June 14th deadline. A maximum of 20 participants will be accepted. All participants must complete a liability waiver and a P.A.L. registration form in addition to the event registration. The youth academy attire for Day 1 must be appropriate athletic apparel consisting of a t-shirt, shorts/leggings, socks, and athletic sneakers. There will be a uniform issued to the youth recruits after the completion of Day 1.

There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.

 

P.A.L. Football Combine

The Dover Police Department Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) has partnered with the Dover High school and the Delaware State University Police Department to put on a one day football combine to be held at the Dover High school’s athletic complex. 

The one-day program is scheduled for  Saturday, June 12th, 2021 from 8am-Noon.  Snacks, Gatorade, and water will be provided courtesy of event sponsors Sam’s Club.  The program is open to 5th-8th grade students of all skill levels.  There will be multiple skills competitions with prizes awarded.  

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  A minimum of 25 participants must register by the June 7th deadline.  A maximum of 100 participants will be accepted.  All participants must complete a liability waiver and event registration.  Event registration can be found below.

Athletic attire must be worn.  Football cleats are not required but are highly recommended (no metal cleats).  There is no rain date for this event and transportation is not provided.

 

Outrunning Childhood Cancer (5k Run/Walk)
On Saturday, August 7th, the Outrunning Childhood Cancer 5k Run/Walk will kick off just outside of the Dover Police Department.  A portion of race proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.  Registration and Race Information can be found at the event organizer’s site:

Three Arrested for Sunday Morning Assault and Robbery

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested three men and is seeking additional suspects involved in a robbery and assault that occurred on Sunday morning.  The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 a.m. in a vacant parking lot at Loockerman Street and Queen Street.  A 37-year-old male was assaulted by five male suspects who also stole his keys and wallet.  The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for injuries to his face and arms.  After reviewing video of the area and a search by patrol officers, thee of the suspects were arrested without incident.  Two others remain at large. 

Stanley Stanford was committed to SCI on a $900 secured bond on the following charges:

Dover Police Investigating Shooting Incident on South Little Creek Road

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, May 22nd.  At approximately 11:53 a.m., officers responded to the area of 1014 S. little Creek Road for a report of a fight.  When officers arrived, they learned that a male and female (Mikahela Ray, 34) were engaged in an argument and the female subject sprayed pepper spray at the male subject and two other persons who were present.  Shortly after, several gunshots were heard in the area.  Ray was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of Assault 2nd Degree and one count of Disorderly Conduct.  Ray was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Center on a $9,250 secured bond.

At approximately 6:16 p.m., the Dover Police Department was notified that a 73-year-old male was at Kent General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.  The victim stated that he was in the area of 1014 S. Little Creek Road and observed the altercation that was previously reported.  As the victim was about to leave, he heard multiple shots and felt something hit his back.  The victim stated he felt like a “ball hit him.”  The victim went home and later realized that he was struck by gunfire and went to the hospital where he was being treated for a non-life threatening injury.
