Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a severe motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Route 13 and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd shortly after 3:00 this afternoon.  A silver Chevrolet HHR being operated by a 31-year-old female was in the left turn lane of northbound US Route 13, and preparing to make a left onto Martin Luther King Kr. Blvd.  Meanwhile, a 31-year-old male was operating a Kawasaki ZX6R on the southbound side of Route 13, approaching the same intersection.  The motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic and continued through the intersection as the HHR was turning onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.  The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to flip over the vehicle and the driver to be ejected.

The operator of the motorcycle sustained life threatening injuries consisting of fractures to both arms, legs, pelvis, and multiple internal injuries.  The operator of the motorcycle was flown from Kent General Hospital to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the HHR was treated for minor injuries and released.  However, her 12-year-old daughter, who was a front seat passenger suffered multiple bone fractures and internal injuries.  She was flown from Kent General Hospital to AI Dupont Children’s Hospital in critical condition.  Two rear passengers were also transported to AI Dupont Children’s Hospital from Kent General Hospital.  A six-year-old male who was seated in the rear passenger side seat suffered multiple bone fractures and a severe laceration to his head and face and is currently listed in critical condition.  A 3-year-old who was seated in the rear driver side seat suffered minor injuries from the collision but was transported to AI Dupont Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The southbound lanes of Route 13 and Eastbound lanes of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd were shut down from 3:11PM until approximately 6:30 as investigators remained on scene to investigate the accident.  It was learned during the investigation that the motorcycle was reported stolen from Fairfax County, Virginia.  At this time no charges have been filed as the case is still under investigation.
