Job Title: Communications Operator

Salary range: $17.10 per hour

Hours: Full-Time

Job Description:

The  City  of  Dover  is  currently  accepting  applications  for  two  (2)  Communications Operators. These position are in the Police Departments’ 911 Communication Center. The essential function of these positions within the organization is to dispatch emergency services in response to calls for assistance. The position is responsible for answering emergency services phones (911 phones), dispatching appropriate emergency services, maintaining emergency reference materials and obtaining service in event of equipment failure.

The Communication Operators works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. These positions are responsible for maintaining various logs, charts, and recordings to provide records of all emergency and non-emergency actions for follow-up investigative, administrative, or legal action. In addition, monitors the building security system, including security cameras.

A high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training such as DELJIS, NCIC or Smart 911 is required. These positions require normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, and color perception as well as good physical and mental health. Psychological testing and a physical exam will be pre-employment requirements. Candidates must have the ability to work rotating shifts. The schedule is currently 12-hours. The positions require three (3) months of related experience
with operating computers and understand basic computer functions; experience in DELJIS and NCIC helpful. Experience with Microsoft Outlook preferred. The ability to remain calm in crisis situations is vital. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly, and deal tactfully with the public is required. A dispatching test will be required of all candidates.

The Dover Police Department has issued a Gold Alert for a missing Dover man.  John Wyatte (37) was last contacted at 11:00PM on Friday, April 28th.  There is concern for his well-being based on pre-existing conditions.   Wyatte may be operating a 2003 Buick LeSabre with DE REG: 131000 (maroon in color).

Burglary at DOT Discount Store 4-27-2017

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating the second burglary of DOT Discount in five days.  The second incident occurred at 2:31AM on Thursday morning, when an unknown suspect broke the glass to the business with a rock.  Once inside, the suspect stole cigarettes and lottery tickets before fleeing in an unknown direction.  The suspect is seen wearing dark pants, a black/dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and gloves, while placing items into a black trash bag.

Shots Fired on S. New Street 4-26-17

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in the unit block of S. New Street.  At approximately 3:02AM, officers responded to the area for numerous reports of shots being fired.  Officers canvassed the area and learned that an occupied home and an unoccupied vehicle were struck by the gunfire.  No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Dover Man Wanted After Fleeing in Stolen Vehicle During Traffic Stop 4-24-2017

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is seeking Christopher Sudler (24) after he fled in a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop on Friday night.  At approximately 11:22PM, a Dover police officer stopped a gold GMC Yukon in the area of Loockerman Street and South New Street for a registration violation.  The driver, Christopher Sudler, provided the officer with a name, as he claimed to not have identification on him.  When the officer conducted a computer check, it was discovered that the name provided belonged to an incarcerated inmate.  After learning the true identity of the driver, the officer approached the vehicle again, when Sudler fled the area.  Due to public safety concerns, a pursuit was not initiated.  At approximately 11:45PM, the owner of the GMC Yukon reported it stolen to the Dover Police Department.  The vehicle was later recovered on Silver Lake Blvd. after it struck a curb.

Sudler is currently wanted on the following charges:
-Theft of a Motor Vehicle
-Disregarding Police Officer Signal
-Criminal Impersonation
-Several Traffic Offenses

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating an early morning burglary that occurred at the DOT Discount Store in the Carrol’s Corner Shopping Center.  The incident occurred at 4:13AM, when a male suspect broke the glass storefront and went inside the business.  While inside, the suspect stole 32 cartons of Newport Cigarettes and scratch off lottery tickets.   Surveillance video shows a thin male suspect, wearing black sneakers, dark pants, a light-colored sleeveless hooded shirt, and purple latex gloves.  The suspect filled a black trash bag with the stolen items before fleeing the business.
