On September 12, 2017, Natalie VanDzura and her grandfather, George Taylor attended the Delaware Police Chiefs’ Council’s monthly meeting to donate gift cards from WAWA and Dunkin Donuts to all Delaware police agencies.
Following the murder of Delaware State Police Corporal Stephen Ballard in April of this year Natalie told her mom she wanted to do something for police officers to show how much she appreciates what they do for the communities that they serve.
With the help of her family, Natalie started a lemonade stand to raise money with the intent of purchasing gift cards to be donated to law enforcement officers. Natalie’s mother Carri posted on Facebook how Natalie wanted to do raise funds to show her support for law enforcement. The community rallied behind Natalie efforts and she was able to raise $1,555.00, which resulted in 311 gift cards!
On behalf of the Delaware Police Chiefs’ Council, we wanted to share this act of kindness. It affirms that we can all learn so much from a 7-year-old child who knows the true spirit of kindness and generosity.
