Dover P.A.L. Basketball Skills Camp Announced for March 23rd 2-18-2019

Join the Dover Police Department Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) and others for a one-day Basketball Skills Camp at the John W. Pitts Recreation Center on March 23rd, 2019.  The camp is FREE for 5th-8th grade students, male or female. All participants must register as a P.A.L. participant and for the camp itself.  Links to both registrations can be found below:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Camp is open to male and female participants in 5th-8th grade only.

A maximum of 40 participants will be accepted.

Campers will learn the fundamentals of basketball consisting of: teamwork, stretching, dribbling, passing and shooting.

Campers will then compete in 3 on 3 games using the skills and fundamentals they have learned throughout the camp.

Campers must be dressed in proper attire for a recreational activity. Suggested attire: t-shirt, shorts and Basketball sneakers.

All registered Campers will receive a free skills camp t-shirt.

Campers must be pre- registered for this free event.

 Campers must be a registered PAL Member. If your child is not registered, you must complete the PAL Membership form and return it via email/mail.

Lunch will be generously donated by Dover PANDA Express.

Metro PCS Store Burglarized 2-18-2019

 Location:  Metro PCS, 464 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary of a Metro PCS store located at 464 N. DuPont Highway.  Officers responded to the business after receiving an alarm at approximately 9:58PM on Sunday night.  The suspect had broken a hole in a glass window to gain entry to he business.  Once inside, the suspect removed four display phones and fled in an unknown direction.  A review of surveillance footage shows that the suspect is a black male, wearing an Eagles knit hat, dark coat, and jeans.  

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous.  Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at delawarecrimestoppers.com; a cash reward of up to $1,000 is possible for information leading to an arrest.

Suspect Arrested After Breaking In Home on Pear Street 2-18-2019

Narrative: The Dover Police Department arrested Thomas Jenkins (31) for a residential burglary after a homeowner found him inside their residence.  Between 6:30PM on Friday, February 15th and 9:06AM on Saturday, February 16th, Jenkins forced his way into the home by prying open a door.  Once inside, Jenkins consumed food items belonging to the victim.  When the victim returned home on Saturday morning, Jenkins fled the home on foot.  Responding officers took Jenkins into custody without incident near the Wesley College football field.  

Jenkins was released on an O.R. bond on the following charges:
-Burglary 2nd Degree
-Theft Under $1500.00
-Criminal Mischief Under $1000

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is issuing a Gold Alert while they investigate a missing person.  Erick Acevedo-Palencia (21) was last seen leaving the Malmberg Hall dorm at Wesley College at approximately 6:21PM on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019.  Surveillance footage shows Acavedo-Palencia leaving the dorm and walking towards the nearby intersection of Division Street and Bradford Street.  Acevedo-Palencia was last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black athletic-type pants with a white stripe, and white sneakers.  He is approximately 6’2″ and 175 pounds, with black hair, and brown eyes.    Erick Acevedo-Palencia has a residence in Wilmington, Delaware as well.

During the investigation, it was learned that Acevedo-Palencia made statements to others that are cause for concern for his health and safety, prompting the Gold Alert.

7-11 Robbery Suspect Arrested After Assaulting Clerk with Knife 2-15-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department arrested Kevin Wayman, Jr. (32) after robbing a 7-11 on Friday morning.  At approximately 2:54AM, Wayman entered the business and dropped a glass bottled beverage to create a distraction.  When the store clerk responded to clean the area, Wayman went behind the counter and removed 2 cartons of Newport cigarettes.  The clerk confronted Wayman and was able to get one of the cartons from him before Wayman fled.  The clerk followed Wayman into the parking lot and Wayman pulled a 4″ pocket knife out and began to struggle with the clerk, cutting him several times in the face.  

Wayman then fled, but was apprehended by patrol officers in the area of Governors Avenue at West North Street.  The store clerk was treated and released for his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Wayman was committed to SCI in default of $59,000 secured bond on the following charges:
-Robbery 1st Degree
-Assault 2nd Degree
-Possession of Deadly Weapon During Commission of Felony
-Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Possession of Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited
-Theft Under $1,500
-Tampering with Physical Evidence
-Drug Paraphernalia

Delaware Probation and Parole Witness Burglary, Suspect Arrested 2-14-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department arrested a 19-year-old on burglary charges on Wednesday evening.  At approximately 5:58PM, Delaware Probation and Parole officers were working in the Unit Block of South Governors Avenue, when they observed a male subject throwing a bag from a broken second floor window.  Probation and Parole notified Dover PD who arrived on scene and took Adam Brown (19) into custody inside the residence.  It was determined that Brown had broken the second floor window and removed a Playstation game console, and an undisclosed amount of cash from the residence.  Brown was also wanted on two capias’ for Failure to Appear.  

Brown was released on OR bond on all new charges, but was given $500 secured bond on each capias.  Brown made bond and was released after being charged with the following:
-Burglary 2nd Degree
-Possession of Burglar Tools
-Theft $1500 or Greater
-Criminal Mischief

UPDATE:  The Dover Police Department has cancelled the Gold Alert for Victoria Renda after she returned home safely on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019.

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department has issued a Gold Alert for a missing 16-year-old.  Victoria Renda was reported missing on Sunday, January 10th, at approximately 5:15PM.  Renda was last seen at her residence in the Unit Block of Forest Creek Drive.  She was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, light green pants, and black/white shoes.  Renda has a condition that may present health or safety concerns if not properly treated/maintained.    If you have any information on Johnson’s whereabouts, please contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7111.
