Dover Police Investigating Late Report of Shots Fired at Residence on Slaughter Street 5-31-2019

Narrative: 

Dover Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Wednesday evening that left a house damaged.  The incident occurred Wednesday night, but was not reported to police until Thursday afternoon.  The residents advised police that their residence was struck by gunfire 5-6 times.  The residents stayed in a bedroom and did not notify police.  There were no reports of shots fired or other significant activity in the area of Slaughter Street during the time this incident occurred.  No injuries occurred as a result of this incident.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7130. Marydel Man Charged After “One Pot Meth Labs” Found in Vehicle 5-31-2019

Narrative: The Dover Police arrested 59-year-old Eugene Thompson, Jr. on drug charges following an early morning incident in a Walgreen’s Parking Lot on Thursday.  At approximately 8:26AM, a 3rd party called to report a possible overdose/medical issue involving a male subject in a blue sedan.  Officers arrived and located Thompson inside the vehicle, who was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.  While assisting Thompson, officers located a “one pot meth lab” inside of the vehicle.  A short time later, a second one was found in the trunk.  Officers also located 3 vials containing a total of .6 grams of methamphetamine inside of the vehicle. 

Emergency response and Hazardous Material teams from several agencies responded to the location and safely disposed of the “one pot” labs, causing the parking lot to the business to be closed for approximately 2-3 hours.

Once Thompson was released from the hospital, he was charged with the following offenses and released on an O.R. bond:
-Operating a Clandestine Laboratory
-Possession of Methampetamine
-Drug Paraphernalia

Suspect Arrested in Attempted Residential Burglary and Thefts from Vehicles 5-29-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department arrested  Richard Edwards in connection with an attempted residential burglary and thefts from vehicles.  On May 27th, 2019 at approximately 3:28PM, officers responded to a home in the 200 Block of Meadow Drive for an attempted burglary.  Edwards and another suspect knocked on the victims front door.  When the owner did not answer, the suspects attempted to break in through a rear door.  The victim was inside the residence on the second floor.  The suspects saw the victim and fled the area on foot. Arriving officers attempted to stop the suspects, but they were able to flee successfully at the time.  On the morning of May 28th, officers stopped Edwards as he was breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.  Officers recognized Edwards as the suspect from the attempted residential burglary from the day prior and he was taken into custody without incident.  

The second suspect remains at large and is described as a black male, wearing shorts, and a dark shirt.

Edwards (46) was released on an O.R. bond on the following charges, stemming from both incidents:
-Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Criminal Mischief (3x)
-Resisting Arrest
-Attempted Theft from Motor Vehicle
-Theft Under $1500.00
-Disorderly Conduct

Arrest Made in Dover Mall Burglaries 5-29-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department has arrested Otto McDonald in connection with multiple burglaries inside of the Dover Mall that occurred in May of 2019.  McDonald was a temp-worker performing labor at the Victoria’s Secret store and had access to the mall.  During this time, it is believed that McDonald stole multiple tools from multiple victims at the Victoria’s Secret store and pawned them at a local pawn shop.  It is also believed that McDonald committed the burglaries at Piercing Pagoda and Journey’s Shoe Store inside of the mall.

McDonald was released on an O.R. Bond on the following charges:
-Burglary 3rd Degree (4x)
-Theft $1500.00 or Greater (2x)
-Theft Under $1500.00 (3x)
-Theft by False Pretense (2x)
-Criminal Mischief (3x)

Dover P.A.L. Now Accepting Applications for Youth Football Combine 5-29-2019

The Dover Police Department Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) has partnered with the Delaware State University and the Delaware State University Police Department to put on a one day football combine to be held at the university’s athletic complex. 

The one-day program is scheduled for  Saturday, June 15th, 2018 from 8 AM-NOON.  Snacks, Gatorade, and water will be provided courtesy of event sponsors Sam’s Club and The Home Depot.  The program is open to 5th-8th grade students of all skill levels.  There will be multiple skills competitions with prizes awarded.  

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  A maximum of 60 participants will be accepted.  All participants must complete a liability waiver and a P.A.L. registration form in addition to the event registration.  Event registration can be found here:  P.A.L. Football Combine

Athletic attire must be worn.  Football cleats are not required but are highly recommended (no metal cleats).  There is no rain date for this event and transportation is not provided. 

Residential Burglary on Columbia Avenue 5-28-2019

Narrative: 

The Dover Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that occurred on Friday afternoon.  Between 3:00PM-5:30PM on May 24th, an unknown suspect forced entry into a home in the 200 Block of Columbia Avenue.  Once inside the suspect removed silver dining utensils and a pair of men’s sneakers before fleeing.
