The Dover Police Athletic League is announcing two free and exciting summer programs for Dover area youth.

A Day In Their Boots

After a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the popular “A Day in Their Boots” program returns on July 13th, 2022.

Participants will learn what it takes to be a first responder in Delaware and the challenges they face by joining the Dover Police Athletic League on Wednesday, July 13th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Delaware State Fire School.  This program is being hosted by the Delaware State Fire School, Dover Police P.A.L., the Dover Fire Department, Kent County Department of Public Safety, and Saint Francis EMS.  There is no cost to attend, but children ages 5-10 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Lunch will be provided to all participants by event sponsor North Dover Chick-Fil-A.  A minimum of 30 participants is required for this program to take place.  Registration form can be found at the link below.  Parents/Guardians will have to sign a liability waiver after registration.

Dover Police Youth Academy

The Dover Police Department and the Dover Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) are excited to announce their annual youth police academy. The youth academy will be held at the Dover Police Department and consist of two separate classes. 

This is a five-day program that will start from Monday, July 18th, 2022 to Friday, July 22nd, 2022.   The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3 pm. Upon completion of the first week, there will be an additional youth academy the following week which will be scheduled from Monday, July 25th, 2022 to Friday, July 29th. The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3pm.

Capital School district food service will provide lunches each day for the youth recruits and snacks, drinks, and water will be provided courtesy of our sponsor, SAM’S Club of Dover. 

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The youth academy is open to both boys and girls ages 10-13. A minimum of 5 participants must register by the June 14th deadline. A maximum of 25 participants will be accepted. All participants must complete a  registration form/liability waiver in addition to the event registration. The youth academy attire for Day 1 must be appropriate athletic apparel consisting of a t-shirt, shorts/leggings, socks, and athletic sneakers. There will be a uniform issued to the youth recruits after the completion of Day 1.

Victim Identified in Fatal Crash on Kings Highway

Narrative:  The Dover Police Department has is identifying the 21-year-old victim in the June 3rd fatal crash on Kings Highway as Briyana Berry.  Berry was properly restrained in the front passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries.  The cause of the crash is still unknown and pending further testing and investigation.  Updates will be provided as available.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Friday evening.  At approximately 7:44 p.m., a black 2019 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Division Street, approaching the intersection of NE Kings Highway and Park Drive.  The vehicle crossed the center line, striking a traffic island, and then striking a traffic signal pole at the northeast corner of the intersection.  A 21-year-old female died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.  The 20-year-old male driver was not injured but is being evaluated for a possible medical condition/incident.  The cause of the crash is unknown and pending further testing and investigation.  Updates will be provided as available.
