Narrative:

The Dover Police Department has arrested Matthew Clendaniel, 29, of Dover, for injuring an officer following a trespassing complaint at the Capital Inn early Tuesday morning. The investigation began at 1:16 a.m. when Dover Police was called to the hotel for a man trespassing on the property. While responding, it was relayed to officers that the suspect was leaving and a description was provided. Officers arrived in the area and located Clendaniel, who matched the description provided. Officers told Clendaniel to stop however he kept walking away from officers. Officers attempted to take him into custody at which time he began to actively resist arrest and would not put his hands behind his back. Three officers were eventually able to take Clendaniel into custody, however one officer sustained minor injuries to his lower body during the struggle. It was determined that Clendaniel was under the influence of alcohol once he was taken into custody. While placing Clendaniel into a patrol vehicle he spit on an officer. Clendaniel was transported to Dover Police where he was processed and arraigned.
