Suspect Arrested in Carjacking

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested one suspect and is seeking a second in connection with a carjacking that occurred on Thursday morning. At approximately 12:34 a.m., the two suspects entered a vehicle that was left running in the parking lot. The female victim observed this and ran outside to approach them. At that time the driver pointed a handgun at her and the vehicle fled. A short time later, the vehicle was observed by Smyrna Police Department, but the pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns. At 3:37 a.m. the vehicle was once again spotted by Smyrna Police who pursued the vehicle into Dover. The vehicle stopped in the area of South Governors Avenue and Bank Lane and both suspects fled on foot. Officers were able to arrest Dakota Borntreger (20), who was also in possession of two handguns. The second suspect is still at large and is described as a black male wearing dark clothing.

Borntreger was committed to SCI on a $46,000 cash bond on the following offenses:
-Robbery 1st Degree
-Possession of Untraceable Firearm (2x)
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Wearing a Disguise
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree

McKee Road Home Invasion

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a home invasion burglary that occurred on Wednesday morning. At approximately 12:30 a.m., officers received a call for the incident in the Unit Block of McKee Road. Officers contacted a 53-year-old male who advised that he heard glass break at the rear of his residence. Unable to get up quickly due to a medical condition, the wife checked on the noise and was confronted by two black male suspects with handguns. The male victim gave the suspects an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspects fled.

Vehicle Shot on White Oak Road

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday morning. Officers responded to a parking lot of a business in the 500 Block of North DuPont Highway after a 19-year-old female and 18-year-old male reported being shot at. The pair was traveling near the One Stop Shop on White Oak Road in a white Kia Optima when shots were fired from an unknown location by and unknown suspect. One round struck the occupied vehicle in the rear passenger side window and exited through the front windshield. The victims then fled to the parking lot where they called and met police. No injuries were reported by either victim.

Burglary at Home Depot

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred at Home Depot. Officers responded to the business at 1:58 a.m. and it was determined that an unknown number of suspects entered the business through a rear door. Once inside, the suspect(s) removed a large amount of power and garden tools from the business. Two large portable tool boxes were located on the east side of the business that contained a large amount of tools that were also taken from the business.

Shooting on South New Street

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 20-year-old male in critical condition as the result of multiple gunshot wounds. Officers responded to the 100 Block of South New Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located the male victim lying in the roadway and began first aid until medics arrived and transported the victim to Bayhealth Kent Campus. The victim was struck a total of eight times by gunfire with injuries to his upper extremities and torso. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition

Dover Woman Arrested for Multiple Drug Offenses

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested Amber Howard (40) on drug charges on June 7th, 2022. Officers obtained a search warrant for Howard’s hotel room at the Kent Budget Inn located at 383 North DuPont Highway as the result of a drug investigation. During the search, Howard was found to be in possession of the following:
-142 bags of heroin
-10.2 grams of cocaine
-5.6 grams of MDMA
-12.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine
-36.7 grams of marijuana

Howard was arrested without incident and released on a $7,300 unsecured bond on the following offenses:

-Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine
-Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine
-Possession with Intent to Deliver MDMA
-Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin
-Possession of Alprazolam
-Drug Paraphernalia
-Possession of Marijuana
-Possession of Cocaine
-Possession of MDMA
-Possession of Methamphetamine

Dover Police Athletic League Announces Two Free Programs for Dover Area Youth

The Dover Police Athletic League is announcing two free and exciting summer programs for Dover area youth.

A Day In Their Boots

After a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the popular “A Day in Their Boots” program returns on July 13th, 2022.

Participants will learn what it takes to be a first responder in Delaware and the challenges they face by joining the Dover Police Athletic League on Wednesday, July 13th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Delaware State Fire School.  This program is being hosted by the Delaware State Fire School, Dover Police P.A.L., the Dover Fire Department, Kent County Department of Public Safety, and Saint Francis EMS.  There is no cost to attend, but children ages 5-10 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Lunch will be provided to all participants by event sponsor North Dover Chick-Fil-A.  A minimum of 30 participants is required for this program to take place.  Registration form can be found at the link below.  Parents/Guardians will have to sign a liability waiver after registration.

Dover Police Youth Academy

The Dover Police Department and the Dover Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) are excited to announce their annual youth police academy. The youth academy will be held at the Dover Police Department and consist of two separate classes. 

This is a five-day program that will start from Monday, July 18th, 2022 to Friday, July 22nd, 2022.   The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3 pm. Upon completion of the first week, there will be an additional youth academy the following week which will be scheduled from Monday, July 25th, 2022 to Friday, July 29th. The hours each day will be from 7:30 am-3pm.

Capital School district food service will provide lunches each day for the youth recruits and snacks, drinks, and water will be provided courtesy of our sponsor, SAM’S Club of Dover. 

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. The youth academy is open to both boys and girls ages 10-13. A minimum of 5 participants must register by the June 14th deadline. A maximum of 25 participants will be accepted. All participants must complete a  registration form/liability waiver in addition to the event registration. Event registration can be found at doverpolice.org/pal.

The youth academy attire for Day 1 must be appropriate athletic apparel consisting of a t-shirt, shorts/leggings, socks, and athletic sneakers. There will be a uniform issued to the youth recruits after the completion of Day 1.
