DUI Suspect Resists Arrest 3-2-14

Location: Traffic Stop at Forrest Street w/of Lincoln Street
Narrative: On March 1, 2014 at 6:31 PM, a Dover Police Patrol Officer’s vehicle was nearly struck by another vehicle. The officer was able to stop the suspect and begin a suspected DUI investigation. The suspect failed to provide the officer with any identification and was belligerent. The suspect then attempted to exit his vehicle striking the officer in the leg with his car door. A struggled ensued and the suspect violently resisted the officer. A second officer arrived and they were able to take the suspect into custody. As a result the officer’s pants were ripped and the officer sustained injuries to both hands. The officer was treated at KGH-ER for contusions and was released. The suspect, Melvin Williams, age 35 of Dover was found to be wanted on numerous bench warrants, had a suspended driver’s license and was Driving Under the Influence. He was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center default $30,600.00 secured cash bond.
