The Dover Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident this morning that involved a school bus. There were no children on the bus when the accident occurred. The school bus was stopped facing westbound on Clara Street at North Governors Avenue, while a Chrysler Cirrus was traveling southbound on Governors Avenue, approaching Clara Street. As the Chrysler approached the intersection, the school bus pulled out, striking the driver side of the Cirrus, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle went off the west side of the roadway, striking a mailbox, and the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of North Governors Avenue. The driver had to be extracted from the vehicle with the assistance of the Dover Fire Department. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Kent General Hospital with neck/back pain and a possible leg injury. The front and rear passenger of that vehicle were also transported to the Kent General Hospital for neck/back pain as well. The operator of the school bus reported no injuries, and was cited for Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign. Due to the accident, traffic was detoured from the area for approximately 45 minutes.
