Teen Suspect Arrested in May 22nd Shooting

 

UPDATE JUNE 16, 2021:
The Dover Police Department arrested a 15-year-old male suspect in the shooting incident that resulted in a 73-year-old man being struck by a stray bullet.  Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance of the incident and identified the suspect as a result.  On June 15th, the suspect was arrested at 10:55 a.m. in the 400 Block of Barrister Place by the Dover Police Department and the U.S. Marshals 1st State Fugitive Task Force.  The suspect was committed to a juvenile detention center on a $5,000 secured bond on the following offenses:

-Assault 2nd Degree
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, May 22nd.  At approximately 11:53 a.m., officers responded to the area of 1014 S. little Creek Road for a report of a fight.  When officers arrived, they learned that a male and female (Mikahela Ray, 34) were engaged in an argument and the female subject sprayed pepper spray at the male subject and two other persons who were present.  Shortly after, several gunshots were heard in the area.  Ray was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of Assault 2nd Degree and one count of Disorderly Conduct.  Ray was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Center on a $9,250 secured bond.

At approximately 6:16 p.m., the Dover Police Department was notified that a 73-year-old male was at Kent General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.  The victim stated that he was in the area of 1014 S. Little Creek Road and observed the altercation that was previously reported.  As the victim was about to leave, he heard multiple shots and felt something hit his back.  The victim stated he felt like a “ball hit him.”  The victim went home and later realized that he was struck by gunfire and went to the hospital where he was being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Simon Circle

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested James Jennings (30) on drug charges after being stopped for a traffic violation on Monday.  Officers from Dover Police and Delaware Probation and Parole attempted to stop Jennings in the area of Simon Circle and West North Street for driving with a suspended license.  Jennings threw an object out of the window before stopping.  When officers placed Jennings in handcuffs, he attempted to break away from officers and flee on foot, but was apprehended once again.  Officers locate the item Jennings threw from the vehicle and discovered it was two large plastic bags containing a total of 82 smaller bags of crack cocaine weighing approximately 31.1 grams.  

Jennings was committed to SCI on a $42,100 secured bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Crack Cocaine
-Possession with Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine
-Drug Paraphernalia
-Tampering with Physical Evidence
-Resisting Arrest

Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Charges for Virginia Woman

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department arrested a 23-year-old female on weapon offenses during a traffic stop on Saturday evening.  Kaitlyn Hammond, of Sterling, Virginia, was stopped in the area of River Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a speeding and stop sign violation.  During the stop, officers contacted a male operator and Hammond, who was a passenger.  Officers observed a small bag of marijuana on the center console in plain view during the stop. Both occupants were detained and during a search of the vehicle, officers located additional small bags of marijuana and a handgun inside of a purse belonging to Hammond.  

Hammond was released on an O.R. bond on the following offenses:
-Possession of Marijuana (Civil)
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited
-Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that occurred on June 13th.  Sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 710 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a rear window of an unoccupied home.  While inside they removed several computer items and fled the area.  No further information is available at this time.

Four Arrested During Stolen Vehicle Investigation

Narrative:

The Dover Police Department working with the U.S. Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force, Delaware State Police, and Delaware Probation and Parole, arrested four subjects on Thursday morning after locating two stolen vehicles.  Officers observed four subjects inside one of the stolen vehicles parked in the 100 Block of Willis Road.  When the subjects were approached, they all fled on foot.  All four were quickly apprehended without incident.

A 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male were released to their parents/guardians after being charged with:
-Receiving Stolen Property
-Conspiracy 2nd Degree
-Resisting Arrest

Arrest Made in Simon Circle Homicide

 

UPDATE (June 10th, 2021):
The Dover Police Department has made an arrest in the June 9th homicide that occurred in the area of West North Street and Simon Circle.  During the investigation, Nyasia Smith (20), of Felton, was developed as a suspect in the case.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Smith who was taken into custody during a traffic stop at approximately 6:38 p.m. in the Felton area.  When Smith was arrested, she was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, approximately 41.7 grams of marijuana, and a digital scale.

The name of the victim in this case is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.

Smith was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Center on a $1,150,000.00 cash bond on the following charges:
-Murder 1st Degree
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony

The Dover Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday morning.  At approximately 1:33 a.m. officers were called to the area of West North Street and Simon Circle in reference to a subject being shot.  Upon arrival, officers located a 37-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.  The victim was transported to Kent General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.    

The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.

This incident is the second homicide in the City of Dover in 2021 with the first coming in an April 12th incident which resulted in an arrest.
