Dover High School Student Arrested for Possessing Firearm on Campus (Statement from Capital School District Included)

Narrative:
The Dover Police Department arrested a 16-year-old male student at the Dover High School after discovering that he was in possession of a firearm on campus. At approximately 12:20 p.m. on October 19, 2021, information was received at the school and communicated to the School Resource Officer that the male student may be in possession of a firearm. At 12:20 p.m., the school was placed on a lockdown so the student could be located and the situation placed under control to ensure the safety of students and staff. By 12:29 p.m., the student was taken into custody without incident and the lockdown was lifted by the school. During a search of the student by the School Resource Officer, a firearm was located on the student’s person. Investigating officers have found no evidence to suggest that the suspect intended or made threats to use the firearm.
The suspect was transported back to the Dover Police Department where he will be charged with the following offenses:
-Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Juvenile)
-Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon
-Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone
The Dover Police Department is not releasing the identity of the student per department policy.
The Capital School District provided the following statement regarding the incident:
