Summary:
The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that injured a 26-year-old man on Sunday night. At approximately 8:56 p.m., officers responded to Dover Park for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located the 26-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his arm and leg. The victim was transported to Kent General Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The investigation determined that there was a party at the park when the shooting occurred. A review of surveillance footage showed Devone Humphrey carrying a gun and then fleeing in a gray Dodge Challenger. It was determined that several Delaware State University students were at the event and that it may have been an unsanctioned student party. Officers responded to the college campus and located the gray Dodge Challenger. At that time, officers located an AR-15 rifle on the rear floorboard and took Devone Humphrey (22) into custody without incident. A handgun was also located under the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Based on the evidence found at the scene and surveillance footage, it is not believed that Humphrey was the suspect who shot the 26-year-old victim.
Humphrey was released on an O.R. bond on a single count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com; a cash reward of up to $1,000 is possible for information leading to an arrest.
